The First Peoples needed skills in throwing accurately, running quickly, being alert, moving silently and looking for animal tracks. These skills were mastered when growing to an adult. Children practised spear throwing to hit objects, stone throwing accuracy, running and catching games. Essential skills were being developed as part of these games. In this reader many examples and names are given to these sports. The names are from a broad number of tribal words across Australia.
