Letters and Sounds Book 3 is the fourth step in a planned series designed to develop the language skills necessary for young children to participate in our society. Letters and Sounds Book 3 aims to teach:
- handwriting
- letter/sound awareness (consonant blends, long vowels, diphthongs)
In addition, in this integrated approach, the following aspects of overall language development are included:
- consolidation of Books 1 & 2
- speech
- listening
- word recognition
- word building
- spelling
- reading
- comprehension
- vocabulary development
- creative language (spoken and written)
- punctuation
- copy writing
- correct word activities
- letters and sounds checks - blends and digraphs - vowels and diphthongs
- phonic spelling lists (vowels)
- Letters and Sounds Book 3 is divided into two parts which are learnt concurrently. Part One teaches handwriting. Book 3 is available in Queensland Modern Cursive and will be available in NSW Foundation Style or Victorian Modern Cursive Script. Part Two teaches Letter and Sound Awareness using activities and copywriting dealing with consonant blends, long vowels and diphthongs. In addition Letters and Sounds Book 3 contains a checklist of graduated Word Attack skills and a Student Profile to use as a running record of each child's progress, as well as extensive teaching notes and suggestions.
