Noel Doyle, (1952- ), is a “murri” aborigine, who was born in Mount Isa, QLD, but has lived in the Cape York Penisula region since 15 years of age. The “Milaybuma” jigsaw puzzle is a colourful and unique reflection of the traditional “storytelling” style of indigenous art.
This jigsaw puzzle original artwork was painted with natural ochre’s on bark, and are a reflection of the way the Dreamtime was an educational tool. Admittedly, like many dreamtime tales, it is the ancestor, in this case, Nagorku, (top right), who is a cheeky rascal and the main protagonist in this tale. He steals the barramundi caught by the tribe, and flees in-land, down the creeks and rivers. In the end, the barramundi cooks on the flames at Maragalidan Creek.
